Sabbatical, Emeritus and Distinguished Professor

Currently, Sabbatical, Emeritus and Distinguished Professor status requests are done outside of the JFR system. To request any of these, you will need to submit the following to Brenda Burks, Program and Business Manager, by email (BEBurks@uams.edu)

Off-Campus Duty Assignments (Sabbaticals)

Before requesting a leave of absence, please refer to the 2011 Criteria and Guidelines for Faculty Appointments, Promotion and Tenure, page 28-29.

Required Documents:

  • Current CV
  • A letter from the faculty member requesting leave, in WORD format
  • A letter of support from the department, in WORD format

 

Special Ranks- Emeritus Status and Distinguished Professor

Emeritus Status: Please review the requirements of this status before making a request. Please refer to the 2011 Criteria and Guidelines for Faculty Appointments, Promotion and Tenure, page 27-28.

Required Documents:

  • Current CV
  • A letter of support from the department chair, articulating the rationale for requesting this stutus
  • A Resolution- EMERITUS RESOLUTION template

All documents must be sumbitted in WORD format.

Distinguished Professor Status: Please review the requirements of this status before making a request. Please refer to the 2011 Criteria and Guidelines for Faculty Appointments, Promotion and Tenure, page 28.

Required Documents:

  • Current CV
  • A letter of support from the department chair, addressed to the Dean or the P&T committee, in WORD format.
  • Three external letters of recommendation from Professors who are experts in the candidate’s field attesting to why the individual fulfills the criteria for the award as defined in the P&T document, in PDF format, on letterhead and signed.
