New Admissions Standards 2026

Approved by the College of Medicine Academic Standards Committee and the College of Medicine Curriculum Committee effective beginning with the 2026 admissions cycle

Arkansas Resident Applicants

  1. The applicant must have completed the prerequisite coursework as defined by the Academic Standards committee of the College of Medicine and published in the annual Applicant Guide prior to matriculation.
  2. The applicant must have achieved a score of 500 or greater on the Medical College Admission Test. An applicant whose MCAT score is 499 or below will not be invited to complete a secondary application or be invited for a faculty interview. Therefore, the applicant’s application will not be considered by the Admissions Committee.
  3. The applicant must demonstrate certain personal attributes beyond cognitive ability that are necessary for the study and practice of medicine. These include: curiosity, compassion, integrity, stamina, dedication to service for others, and a sustained ability to learn. These attributes must be found acceptable by the College of Medicine admissions committee based on the application, the Premedical Advisory Committee letter from their college, their personal statement, the interview, and on letters of recommendation.
  4. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required prior to matriculation.

Non-Arkansas Resident Applicants

The Admissions Standards for non-Arkansas residents are identical with the notable exception that non-Arkansas residents must score a 505 or greater total MCAT score to be invited to complete the UAMS secondary application and be invited for a faculty interview.

All applicants invited to complete the UAMS secondary application and be invited for an interview must call the UAMS College of Medicine Admissions Office at 501-686-5354 after August 15 but by no later than November 1 to schedule a faculty interview. All interviews for the 2026 admissions cycle are in-person.

Border State Tuition Waiver Policy

Non-Arkansas residents, whose legal state of residence on the AMCAS application is one of the six border states (Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee or Texas), if subsequently accepted for admission, will pay in-state tuition. The out-of-state tuition is waived for all four years of medical school.
