Emotional Health

Emotional Wellness is more than just handling stress. It also involves having a positive attitude, high self-esteem, a strong sense of who you are as a person, and the ability to be recognize and share a wide range of feelings with others in a constructive way.  It is important to understand that our bodies and minds are interconnected.  Stress can take a toll on physical health as well as having negative emotional effects.  Emotionally well individuals can cope with life stressors effectively.

What are some signs of emotional wellness?

  • Be aware of and accept our feelings, rather than deny them
  • Have an optimistic approach to live
  • Express emotions appropriately
  • Being able to adjust to change
  • Coping with stress in a healthy way
  • Saying “no” when you need to without feeling guilty
  • You feel content most of the time
  • Enjoy life despite its occasional disappointments and frustrations
  • Being able to relax
  • Feeling good about who you are

Emotional wellness includes personal and work-related stressors

Personal

Stress, Depression, Anger, Anxiety, Grief/Loss, Conflict with significant other/Divorce, Parenting/Emotional Health of Child, Child with developmental delay/Chronic Illness, Elder Care, Drugs/Alcohol

Work-Related

Professional Burnout, No sense of personal accomplishment, Work/Life Balance, Problems with supervisor, Problems with Supervisee
