Recent Faculty Appointments

Department of Internal Medicine

Vinisha Reddy Kota, M.D.
Vinisha Reddy Kota, M.D.
, has joined the Department of Internal Medicine as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology. Dr. Kota received her medical training at the Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences and the Kaka Medical College, both in India. Her first year of residency in internal medicine was at the University Of Tennessee College of Medicine, Erlanger Medical Center, in Chattanooga. She completed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in rheumatology at UAMS. Dr. Kota practices at UAMS part-time, assisting the Division of Rheumatology with in-patient consults.

 

 

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Jumin Sunde, M.D.
Jumin Sunde, M.D.
, has joined the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery as an Assistant Professor specializing in head and neck oncologic and microvascular reconstructive surgery. He will see patients in the Head and Neck Oncology Clinic in the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

Dr. Sunde received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and completed his residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at UAMS. He continued his training with a fellowship in head and neck oncology and microvascular surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Sunde recently served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

 

 

Department of Pediatrics

Harrison Cobb, M.D.
Harrison Cobb, M.D.
, will join the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Cardiology at Arkansas Children’s Northwest on July 1. Dr. Cobb received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He completed his pediatric residency at Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he was selected by staff cardiologists at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as Pediatric Cardiology Resident of the Year. Dr. Cobb continued his training with a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s.

 

Emily Beckett, D.O.
Emily Beckett, D.O
., will join the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Community Pediatrics on July 1. Dr. Beckett received her medical degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Fort Worth. She completed her pediatrics residency in at UAMS, where she was elected to the Chiefs Council, a peer-elected committee for advising Chief Residents. Among other honors, she was a “Fabulous Feedback Friday” recipient for demonstrating outstanding care and compassion for patients.

 

April Clawson, M.D.

, will join the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine on July 1. Dr. Clawson received her medical degree from UAMS and remained at UAMS/Arkansas Children’s for her pediatrics residency and fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine. Dr. Clawson is currently working on a research project at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s, “The Value of Biomarkers in Evaluating Febrile Immunocompromised Patients in a Pediatric Emergency Department.”

 

Hannah Wilkins, M.D.
Hannah Baer Wilkins, M.D.
, will join the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine on July 1. Dr. Wilkins received her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She completed her pediatrics residency at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s, where she continued her training with a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine.

 

Jessica Cunningham, M.D.

., will join the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics on July 1. Dr. Cunningham received her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia and completed her residency in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine. Prior to coming to UAMS, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Ohio State University School of Medicine and as an ambulatory care physician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

 

Laura Carr, M.D.
Laura Carr, M.D.
, will join the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Neonatology on July 1.  Dr. Carr received her medical degree from the Texas A&M Health Sciences Center College of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and continued her training with a neonatal-perinatal fellowship at UAMS.

 

 

Department of Surgery

Christian Simmons, M.D., Ph.D.
Christian Simmons, M.D., Ph.D.
, will join the Department of Surgery as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery on July 1. Dr. Simmons received his dual M.D./Ph.D. degree at UAMS in 2012. He completed his general surgery residency at UAMS and served as an instructor in Vascular Surgery before completing his fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery in June.
