Breast Pathology

Director: Soheila Korourian, M.D.

The majority of breast lesions are benign, but approximately 1 in 10 women will develop the disease. All women are at risk for breast cancer but some have a higher risk due to BRCA mutations.

The UAMS Breast Pathology consultation service is the only one of its kind in the state of Arkansas. We provide expert diagnostic services for breast specimens, including core biopsies, lumpectomies, and mastectomies. Our laboratory has provided ancillary testing for breast carcinomas, including immunohistochemical studies for estrogen and progesterone for the last twelve years. We are also fully accredited to run immunohistochemistry studies for her 2-neu as well as fluorescence in situ hybridization. FISH for her 2 neu is run in the Molecular Pathology Division.
