June 2, 2025 | Eighteen ninth-grade students from five different Northwest Arkansas school districts — Bentonville, Farmington, Fayetteville, Siloam Springs and Springdale — gathered Saturday, May 14, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Northwest Regional Campus for an immersive educational experience.
Designed to introduce students to the dynamic field of anesthesiology through a full day of hands-on learning, the Exploring Anesthesiology Workshop for High School Students event was co-sponsored by the UAMS Department of Neuroscience, Department of Anesthesiology and UAMS Northwest Regional Campus.
Spearheaded by Kevin D. Phelan, Ph.D., a professor of neuroscience and director of the AR Tech DaSH program, Faiza A. Khan, M.D., an associate professor of anesthesiology, and Ana Sanchez, the education coordinator with the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus, the workshop brought together faculty and medical students in a collaborative effort to inspire the next generation of medical professionals.
