The Department of Pediatrics’ Promotion and Tenure Committee meets annually to determine the readiness of faculty members requesting consideration for promotion. The Committee is composed of senior faculty who are well versed in the promotion and tenure process, many who have served on the College of Medicine’s Promotion and Tenure Committee. Each faculty member being reviewed will have a primary and secondary reviewer who will work with them to advise them on their promotion portfolio development, and these reviewers will present that faculty member to the DOP Committee at the time of the retreat. Each faculty member will be discussed in detail and a vote will be taken to determine their readiness for review at the COM P&T Committee level, based on the criteria set forth in the COM Guidelines. Following the DOP Committee’s retreat, each candidate will receive an individualized assessment of their packet, noting the outcome of the committee vote on whether or not they should be put forward to the College P&T Committee the following Fall. Specific recommendations regarding areas needing additional work, suggestions for improved packet structure, criteria for external reviewers, and more will also be provided.
