Adolescent Eating Disorders Program

An eating disorder is a significant mental and medical health problem facing both men and women in our society. People with eating disorders are often misunderstood and seen as simply making bad decisions, but research and clinical experience show that an eating disorder can become such an overwhelming part of a person’s life that they will need professional help overcoming the condition and getting back to a happy, healthy life. If left untreated, a person with an eating disorder can suffer medically and emotionally, with a very real possibility of death.

Our program has been helping adolescents recover from eating disorders for approximately 10 years. We are an outpatient, multidisciplinary program dedicated to treating Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and related eating disorders. The program combines aspects of medical treatment, individual, group, and family psychotherapy, nutrition, psychiatry, and support to better understand and treat patients suffering from eating disorders. Our therapists use a variety of behavioral, cognitive, and educational techniques aimed at helping adolescents overcome unhealthy patterns of eating and the reasons behind them.

When an individual is referred to the program, we conduct a comprehensive assessment that includes physical, nutritional, psychological, and social evaluations. If a diagnosis of an eating disorder is made, the treatment team develops an individualized treatment plan that generally includes individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy, as well as a parent support group. We utilize medical and nutritional consultations throughout the course of treatment and encourage healthy living.
