All house staff members (interns, residents, fellows) in ACGME-accredited programs sponsored by the College of Medicine are part of the Resident Council. This is a platform for residents/fellows at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to communicate and exchange information with each other relevant to their programs and their learning and working environment. It also serves as a forum for issues of concern.
The council’s focus is self-defined on a yearly basis and meets every other month. The council has the option to conduct their meetings with or without the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME), faculty members, or other administrators present. They report issues and needs as well as a summary report of each meeting to the GMEC through its three voting representatives.
