“I was trained at UAMS pulmonary and critical care fellowship program from 2012-2015. The time went by really fast. I had an excellent training which made me comfortable going into semi-academic/private practice right after my fellowship training. The collegial atmosphere at UAMS, along with it being the only tertiary referral center for the State of Arkansas, gave me an opportunity for most diverse clinical experience. I was fortunate to work with Dr. Jagana as a co-fellow and also as a faculty. She is a great asset to UAMS. I am confident that Dr. Jagana’s leadership will provide future fellows with invaluable experience.”

The three years of Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at UAMS played an important role in shaping me as a better physician. The breadth of disease pathology was vast and the mentorship from faculty was excellent. Teaching rounds were always informative.
The program was designed to give ample teaching opportunity with protected time for research and family. Graduating from the program, I was confident to face the challenges and complexities of medicine ahead of me.

I completed Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship at UAMS in 2017. After training, I entered private practice and felt very prepared to practice in both outpatient and inpatient settings. My time at UAMS was very educational and formative. I formed close relationships with the faculty and other fellows. My attendings were always available to lend guidance for difficult cases. It is a great program, where incoming fellows will gain the knowledge and skills needed to practice pulmonary and critical care medicine.

I joined the Pulmonary and critical care fellowship program at UAMS 2013. These three years helped me shape my future. It was a great blend of clinical experience and up-to-date evidence based education.
One of the things I always worried about before joining was, would I get enough procedures? Well, I remember doing about 25 bronchoscopies in one month of consultation and that says it all.
Nothing could help me think as a pulmonologist more than the case conference which we had on a weekly basis. All attending physicians and fellows brainstorming about interesting cases and how to work those cases up and manage them.
Being the referral center for the whole state of Arkansas, having a large immunocompromised population from the Myeloma Center and the VA hospital guaranteed that we will see all types of pulmonary diseases that one might encounter during his future career.
Training at UAMS was such an influential decision that helped me be the pulmonologist that I always wanted to be.

My PCCM fellowship at UAMS was an excellent learning experience. Being the largest university hospital in the state of AR, UAMS has a busy ICU with complex medical patients of wide variety. UAMS also offers a robust cystic fibrosis program and a good spectrum of pulmonary pathology in general. Overall, I believe training at UAMS prepares you well for your life ahead as a pulmonary and critical care physician in private or academic setting.

I recently finished my pulmonary and critical care fellowship in June of 2020. UAMS training offers a wide array of pathology and complexity in both critical care and pulmonology. Critical care service gives ample opportunity to gain expertise in procedures like intubations, bronchoscopies, chest tubes and cannulations. The ILD conference provides an opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary discussions with experts in pulmonary, radiology and pathology. The Program is evolving and adding new learning opportunities like USG curriculum, ECMO experience and more.

UAMS always has had a very strong Pulmonary and critical care program. As a resident in same institution I had first hand experience about the attending physicians, program leadership and quality of the fellowship program.
Hence, it was a no-brainer when it came to my fellowship. Along with an environment for scholarship there was a general warmth and kindness from the attending physicians. Being the only university program in the state of Arkansas, there is an exposure to wide variety of pathology.
The lack of CV ICU does limit training in certain areas but overall I felt confident in my training and abilities at the end of my training.

There are several reasons for me to stay back and continue my training as a fellow at UAMS. In my opinion, the most important aspect while choosing a training program is the faculty. They would be your role models and who you look up to. I certainly love our faculty, who are very knowledgeable, approachable, and fun to work with. Most of all, our faculty had inspired me as a resident to choose PCCM as a career, when I was in a dilemma. Additionally, UAMS being tertiary care referral center for the entire state; there is no disease pathology that you would not see by the end of our training. Moreover, if you are an outdoor person, Little Rock is THE place to live, with plenty of national parks, hiking and biking trails.
