How to donate
If you are interested in donating your body to the Anatomical Gift Program, you must be of sound mind and at least 18 years of age (there is no upper age limit) with UAMS Anatomical Gift Program paperwork on file before your passing. If you are unable to fill out paperwork you may designate a proxy to enroll you into the program, you just have to give the UAMS Anatomical Gift Program staff permission and the person’s name and contact information. These forms require your signature and the signatures of two witnesses. All registered donors with the UAMS Anatomical Gift Program will receive a yellow wallet card that signifies they are enrolled in the program. The yellow wallet card has all the information on what to do in case of death.
Pre enrollment
To pre-enroll in the UAMS Anatomical Gift Program you may call 501-686-7019 or 501-686-7019 and speak to an Anatomical Gift coordinator. There is a short pre-enrollment medical questionnaire, once we determine you are eligible we will obtain either your physical mailing address or email address and send out the enrollment packet for completion
How to Donate After Death
The UAMS Anatomical Gift Program may accept deceased individuals who were not previously enrolled by having the paperwork completed by the individual ascribed with durable power of attorney. If a durable power of attorney is not in place, donation of behalf of the deceased may be made by their legal next of kin or executor. If the decedent is divorced or widowed, all adult children must agree on the donation process and sign the enrollment paperwork before we can accept.
Qualifications of acceptance
In order to qualify for the UAMS Anatomical Gift Program you must be over the age of 18 and of sound mind, you can never have tested positive for the following:
- Tuberculosis
- HIV
- Aids
- Hepatitis C
- No widespread cancer to multiple organs throughout the body, we can accept donors with cancer just not widespread.
Exclusions from donation
The exclusion for our program are:
- Sepsis
- MRSA
- Trauma
- Widespread Cancer
- HIV/Aids
- Hepatitis C (even if you have gone through treatment)
- Obesity
- Emaciated
Our program follows a height and weight criteria, we cannot accept any donor over the weight of 250lbs, for all other donors we will ask height and weight at time of death. This will help us determine final acceptance.
At time of death if the donor does meet our criteria we will have to reject the donation and the family will have to provide alternate means of final disposition.
