Obstetrics and Gynecology is the division of medicine concerned with the primary health care of women. Since most physicians will spend a portion of their time caring for women, this course of study is mandatory to all students.
Students will begin to integrate basic science information into clinical practice and begin to formulate diagnostic and therapeutic patient assessments. During the six week rotation, students will be exposed to a wide range of women’s health care issues such as normal and abnormal pregnancies, contraception, endocrine disorders, infections and bleeding abnormalities of the female reproductive system, and gynecologic malignancies.
This course of study has been designed to be meaningful and relevant to the student’s future practice of medicine. We hope to offer the students an experience that gives them basic information concerning women’s health issues. During this clerkship, each student will be required to perform various duties and fulfill certain responsibilities related to the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The faculty in this department have made an attempt to identify the core knowledge and experiences in Obstetrics and Gynecology necessary for the students to meet these obligations.
