Achievements
Dr. Kretzschmar graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences. Throughout undergrad, Dr. Kretzschmar has worked a variety of unique jobs including product testing for the U.S. Army’s official video game “America’s Army” and as the manager of a ski resort in Jackson Hole, WY. Dr. Kretzschmar went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he was inducted into both the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism honor societies.
Service
Dr. Kretzschmar is passionate about serving his community and sharing these opportunities with his peers. At Auburn University he served as an IMPACT volunteer coordinator where he organized and guided weekly volunteer opportunities at the Boys and Girls Club and local food banks. In medical school, he served as the Ophthalmology Interest Group coordinator where he organized ophthalmology centric learning and volunteer opportunities for other aspiring ophthalmologists including: Advancing Sight Network, Impact America Focus First Vision Screenings, and a Mobile Eye Clinic. He also served as a Big Brother in the Big Brother Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham. He enjoys building relationships with others through service and is excited about these opportunities throughout his residency.
Outside Interests and Hobbies
Dr. Kretzschmar enjoys spending time in the outdoors whether that is hiking, biking, camping, gardening, or boating. He loves all types of music and will never pass up an opportunity to attend a concert. Finally, he has been a beekeeper for over a decade and enjoys sharing this hobby with his father.
