Medical Education
Dr. Zain Chauhan is an alumnus of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine, having received his medical degree in May 2023.
Academic Achievements
Dr. Chauhan holds a bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Health, and Society, complemented by a minor in Neuroscience, from Vanderbilt University. Expanding his knowledge base further, he secured a master’s degree in the Social Determinants of Health and a graduate certificate in Global Health, also from Vanderbilt. His intellectual pursuit led him to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he was awarded his second master’s degree in Vision Science and Investigative Ophthalmology, a journey enriched by merit-based academic scholarships.
Throughout his academic tenure, Dr. Chauhan has shown a strong commitment to research across both basic and clinical sciences. As an undergraduate, his work was recognized with the Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship. His studies as a Global Health scholar led him to explore factors influencing health IT adoption in resource-limited settings, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. At UAMS, he graduated with Honors in Research and was awarded the Medical Alumni Academic Scholarship. To date, Dr. Chauhan has made significant contributions to medical literature with over 50 research works, including more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in ophthalmology.
Community Service
Dr. Chauhan harbors a deep-seated passion for community service, evident throughout his academic and professional journey. During his undergraduate studies, he worked with Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science, leading initiatives to deliver science lessons in rural schools and providing bedside lessons to children at the Children’s Hospital. At Bascom Palmer, he volunteered at numerous DOCS health fairs, providing critical eye care to underserved communities in South Florida. Further demonstrating his dedication to service, Dr. Chauhan volunteered at the River City Ministry Sight Savers Eye Clinic and the 12th Street Health Clinic while at UAMS.
Personal Interests
Outside of his professional sphere, Dr. Chauhan is a devoted family man, cherishing time spent with his wife, Sajida Chauhan, and their three daughters, Nur, Maryam, and Amani. An accomplished guitarist, he also enjoys golf and video gaming in his leisure time.
