Didactic Schedule

  • Morning Report from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.
    • Case presentations from residents
  • Academic Half Day
    • One hour resident-led board review, 3 hours board-relevant lecture topics
    • Monthly Housestaff meetings
    • Professional Development curriculum sessions monthly
    • Protected educational time for every resident
  • Journal Club
    • Two articles discussed per session
    • PGY2 and PGY3 residents paired with faculty mentors
  • QIPS – Quality Improvment in Patient Safety
    • PGY2 and PGY3 residents required to present
    • Creates a climate of openness to discuss and learn from medical errors, and to prevent their recurrence
  • Resident Schwartz Rounds
    • Resident-led forum to openly discuss the emotional and psychosocial aspects of patient care
  • Board Prep
    • Interns are provided with study materials.
    • Monthly issues of Pediatrics In Review, yearly subscription of PREP study materials, and access to Pedialink

Rotation Schedule

  • We are on an X+Y schedule with 4-week X-blocks and 1-week Y-blocks.
  • Night float system with no 24-hour call
  • Three weeks of vacation and 12 sick days, each academic year; five ‘career days’ used for fellowship interviews, used once during training.
  • Each resident is guaranteed a six-day block off in either the 3rd or 4th week of December
  • Jeopardy – PGY1s cover other PGY1s one week per year; PGY2 and PGY3 residents are on jeopardy two weeks per year
