It’s a large medical center that sees a high number of patients and unusual pathology so I knew I would get exposed to a lot. Arkansas seemed like a great place to live and when I visited everyone was friendly.

Developing autonomy and skills also seemed to be a common goal between me and the program. I loved the access to opportunities the residents had, the support from program faculty, and the ability to stay relatively close to home!

I spent my 3rd year of medical school here and found that Little Rock has a little bit of everything. It has the connivance and culture of a big city and the landscape of a rural area with a lot of opportunities for outdoor sports. UAMS impressed me with its culture of teamwork and community. My fiancé and I both felt like Little Rock was the perfect place to continue this adventure!

Home Town: Originally from Ethiopia, I consider Central Arkansas my home away from home. I’ve lived in this area for nearly a decade and both my kids were born at UAMS.
I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and: First, I fell in love with the people during my time shadowing and volunteering at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Second, I wanted to stay in Central Arkansas with my family.

Serving such a large population, I was confident about the training I would receive at ACH, but what made UAMS my 1st choice was the friendly & approachable people. I remember logging off on the interview day with a smile!
