The Office of Health Initiatives and Disparities also aims to cultivate health disparity pioneers that take a multidisciplinary and translational approach to addressing cancer related health disparities among the poor and underserved.
The training program has four objectives:
- providing a training program to develop a broader set of faculty/students who are trained in the principles and practices of health disparities
- providing opportunities to trainees to work with communities to integrate health disparities into their research priorities
- facilitating training events in health disparities to build models that link health disparities with service learning or guided experimental learning assignments; and
- implementing a pilot study program to develop a network of faculty partnerships that will sustain training experiences and stimulate collaborative research projects in cancer health disparities.
