I cannot say enough positive things about my experience as a Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellow at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. It was the perfect mix of a true family atmosphere, challenging clinical situations, incredible teaching faculty, and a devotion to our education. I feel that I am a much stronger pediatric anesthesiologist due to my experience at ACH. My wife and I also loved the city of Little Rock and would have stayed forever were it not so far from our families. As a faculty member at a large program in Texas, I have now recommended the ACH fellowship to all my interested residents. Quite a few have gone there, and they all relay the same experience. Some actually love ACH so much that they stay there for their career!!

My time at this pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program was a tremendous experience both for me growing as a clinician as well as my knowledge base in pediatrics. I couldn’t imagine having chosen another program besides UAMS. The faculty are heavily invested in the knowledge and well-being of the fellows and treat them as anesthesiology leaders. ACH is an outstanding hospital with a phenomenal amount of diversity in both the cases and comorbidities. The training I received there was the keystone to my board certification in both anesthesia and the pediatric subspecialty.

The pediatric anesthesiology fellowship training at ACH prepared me to confidently and safely administer anesthesia to children in various states of health. I take care of a diverse pediatric patient population ranging from healthy children to micropremature neonates, children with advanced congenital cardiac/palliative physiology and rare syndromes. As a fellow, I developed a plan, participated and ran complex anesthetics in a patient centered, team based, and nonthreatening learning environment.
The faculty at ACH are amazing anesthesiologists and fantastic teachers! They molded me into a competent pediatric anesthesiologist and prepared me for my oral board exam. I am five years into my practice and I keep in touch with my attending anesthesiologists. We discuss complex patients and enjoy spending time together at the SPA meeting each year. I highly recommend ACH and would return in a heartbeat!

I trained at ACH as both a resident and later as a fellow. I did six months there during my pediatric anesthesia rotations as a resident and the wonderful experience that I had there was the reason for my decision to pursue a pediatric anesthesia fellowship. During my fellowship, I enjoyed a stimulating environment that included a mix of complex and high acuity cases with a strong emphasis on cardiac anesthesia. It not only prepared me for my professional career as a pediatric anesthesiologist but It also gave me ample resources to pass my oral boards the first time by providing a rigorous prep course and numerous simulated exams that were administered by our faculty members. I sincerely owe much of my success to this program and the wonderful people who comprise it.

I have finished my pediatric fellowship at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) almost two years ago and I still remember my top three favorite things about the program.
- The flexibility of the faculties/schedulers to make sure I was doing the best cases of the days for my training – it was always checked with me to make sure I satisfied and agreed with it.
- Acute pain service rotation: I started my fellowship nine years after residency and felt very rusty with my regional skills. I was able to do so many neuraxial and regional blocks I quickly regained my confidence and APS became one of my favorite rotations during fellowship.
- ACH Pedi CV rotation: you really have to experience it, it’s hard to explain. The only thing I can say is after this rotation I decided to do another full year of pediatric cv anesthesia fellowship.
I could not finished my testimony without talking about Dr. Akbar-Ali the fellowship program director – her dedication to the fellowship and to the fellows well-being is inspiring. I hope she will hold that position for many, many years!!!! Thank ACH anesthesia pediatric program for the great experience.
