Welcome to UAMS Dermatology
Dermatology Residency Program
The Department of Dermatology has a proud history of training outstanding dermatology residents for more than 60 years. The faculty members who comprise our teaching faculty dedicate the majority of their academic effort to teaching and mentoring the superior dermatology residents in our department. As we deliver high quality and compassionate patient care, we strive to create a training atmosphere centered on mutual respect, collegiality, humanism, and innovation.
Overview
The UAMS Dermatology Residency Training Program is an ACGME accredited four-year categorical residency. Applicants who match in our program are assigned to the UAMS Internal Medicine training program for the PGY-1 year. (This designation means that we do not accept trainees who have had any PGY training prior to matching into our program.) Unique opportunities we have implemented during the PGY-1 year include the once weekly continuity clinic experience in dermatology clinics at UAMS and the monthly dermatology rotation at the VA hospital clinics, which are described in more detail below.
We match three residents into our Training Program each year, giving us a total of 12 residents. Nine of these are Dermatology Residents (PGY-2 through PGY-4 residents) and the other three are PGY-1 interns in Internal Medicine.
The Department of Dermatology Residency Training Program participates in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) and only accepts applications for our training program through ERAS. There are three training sites in our program – The UAMS Medical Center, the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Members of the teaching faculty are actively involved at each teaching site and provide omnipresent direct supervision to residents.
