Clinical Studies Elective Time
Each PGY-3 dermatology resident has a one month block of protected time in the spring to engage in clinical studies projects with prior approval of the Program Director. Basic research projects may be substituted during this time based on prior experience and career goals of a particular resident.
Quality Improvement/Systems Based Practice Projects
Each PGY-3 resident is required to complete a project specifically designed to address the competency of systems based practice. This requires that the resident identify a problem or an opportunity for improvement regarding delivery of patient care or education, conceive of a solution with a faculty mentor, identify and work with the members of the broad health care team who are needed to affect the change, and carry out the effort needed to ensure their improvement is firmly in place. Implemented in 2009, these resident projects are being carried out very successfully with substantive specific improvements in our delivery of patient care.
