How to Apply
UAMS offers a three-year advanced dermatology residency program. Prior to entry into our program, each trainee must have completed at least one postgraduate year within an ACGME-approved program. UAMS does not offer a four-year categorical option, so applicants must apply separately for a PGY-1 training program if not already completed. Applications for residency are accepted only through the ERAS system. The application deadline is October 1, 2024 for consideration for entry into the three-year advanced residency program as a PGY-2 on July 1, 2026.
Applicants must pass Step 1 and have three letters of recommendation to be considered for acceptance into the program. The NRMP provides information to applicants regarding successfully matched applicants including average Step scores for dermatology. USMLE Step 2 CK is not required for the application, but it is strongly recommended. The UAMS Dermatology department does not impose a minimum USMLE Step 2 CK score requirement. Applicants must demonstrate successful completion of any step of the USMLE or COMLEX in no more than three attempts per step. Applicants may be considered for our program regardless of the time since they graduated from medical school, although activities since graduation should align closely with the applicant’s career aspirations. The UAMS Dermatology department welcomes applications from international medical graduates (IMGs). Graduates of medical schools outside of the United States or Canada must hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment. The department accepts J1 visas but does not currently accept H1 visas.
Our program is participating in the first November coordinated interview release date. The first round of interview invitations will go out on November 4, 2024. We will begin scheduling interviews on November 6; applicants who receive an invitation must respond by November 8. Additional interview invitations will be released as they become available after November 8, 2024.
Virtual Interviews will be held on December 13, 2024 and December 20, 2024 for this year’s applicants. There will be ample time for Q&A with residents and faculty during the interview day and once interviews are completed.
