General Internal Medicine

Welcome!

Alice P. Alexander, M.D.

The Division of General Internal Medicine at UAMS is the academic home for over a dozen IM and Med-Peds trained physicians across clinical sites in Central and Northwest Arkansas. We are united in the mission to deliver superior quality evidence-based care and medical education for the state of Arkansas.

We provide patient-centered care in our UAMS Internal Medicine clinic on campus in midtown Little Rock, as well as our Med-Peds clinic in West Little Rock. We have teaching clinics at both locations. DGIM faculty members also teach and practice in clinics at Baptist Health North Little Rock and at UAMS Northwest in Fayetteville.

Members of our division have critical leadership roles in the medical education of UAMS students and residents, and they have been recognized as some of the best educators on the UAMS faculty, as validated by multiple teaching awards every year. Our faculty regularly facilitate learner participation in scholarly activities through clinical reports, patient-care based research, and quality improvement. The majority of scholarly productivity by the members of our division has been in medical education, guideline development, implementation and analysis, thromboembolism prevention, treatment, and improvement in adult immunization practice.

The educational and clinical interests of our faculty include (but are not limited to) comprehensive primary care, evidence-based medicine, adult immunization, venous thromboembolism, quality improvement, cancer-survivorship care, care of young adults with chronic medical illness in the transition to adult care, perioperative medical consultation, and cost-effective care.
