Meet Dr. Richard-Davis
Gloria Richard-Davis, M.D., FACOG, was a tenured professor, and board-certified reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist, who served as the executive director for the UAMS Division for Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships for several years. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is proud to honor Dr. Richard-Davis’ achievements by offering a scholarship to visiting medical students from underrepresented minority groups.
Throughout her career Dr. Richard-Davis has been a fierce supporter and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Much of her work in research has been focused on conditions that disproportionately affect women of color. Her research efforts have highlighted the cultural differences in how women experience menopause and the disparities in fertility treatment outcomes. Through the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, she founded a special interest group to highlight those differences and she served as Chair of the group during its first four years. While serving on the UAMS Medical School Admissions Committee, she was keenly aware of the pipeline leaks that occur with underrepresented minority students at multiple points in the education process. Dr. Richard-Davis has been a mentor and advisor to many medical students, residents, health profession, and college students throughout her career in academic medicine.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a fourth year medical student in good academic standing at an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States who is a member of a historically excluded and underrepresented in medicine group. UAMS considers those who have been historically excluded and/or underrepresented in medicine as students who come from impoverished backgrounds, who are first generation college graduates, or those who come from or intend to return to medically underserved areas of the state.
