The Gloria Richard-Davis, M.D., Scholarship for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Department of OB/GYN at UAMS recognizes the value of diversity among faculty, residents, students, and staff. In our commitment to recruiting a more diverse resident population, we are excited to offer this $1,000 scholarship opportunity to visiting students from underrepresented groups. UAMS is committed to reducing maternal mortality in the state of Arkansas; providing women of color access to physicians of color is a key step in achieving this goal.

Meet Dr. Richard-Davis

Gloria Richard-Davis, M.D.Gloria Richard-Davis, M.D., FACOG, is a tenured professor, a board certified reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist, and serves as the executive director for the UAMS Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is proud to honor Dr. Richard-Davis’ achievements by offering a scholarship to visiting medical students from underrepresented in medicine groups.

Throughout her career Dr. Richard-Davis has been a fierce supporter and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Much of her work in research has been focused on conditions that disproportionately affect women of color. Her research efforts have highlighted the cultural differences in how women experience menopause and the disparities in fertility treatment outcomes. Through ASRM she founded a special interest group to highlight those differences and served as Chair the first four years. While serving on the UAMS medical school admission committee, she was keenly aware of the pipeline leaks that occur with underrepresented minority students at multiple points in the education process. She has been a mentor and advisor to many medical students, residents, health profession and college students.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a fourth year medical student in good academic standing at an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States who is a member of a historically excluded and underrepresented in medicine group. The AAMC defines Underrepresented in Medicine as “those racial and ethic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.”
