Policy on Admissions
The Department of Pathology training program participates in the NRMP match, and applications are accepted exclusively through the ERAS system. Admission into the program adheres to the guidelines established by the UAMS GME office and the Department of Pathology. UAMS is an equal opportunity employer. Passage of USMLE or COMLEX steps 1 and 2 is required prior to residency start date.
Candidates are selected from the applicants after review of the application file by the program director and his/her faculty designees, based upon quality of previous education, letters of recommendation, standardized scores and applicant-stated career goals and interests. Selected applicants are invited to interview with the Pathology Department. Activities include:
- Individual interviews with faculty members
- Lunch with current residents
- Tour of facilities
- Observation of sign out sessions
- Discussion of the policies of the program, the department and the hospital
At the conclusion of all interviews, the faculty and residents create a rank order list. After approval by the chief residents, head of recruitment, and program director, the rank list is submitted to NRMP.
Occasionally, if a position becomes available, applicants for post-PGY-1 years may apply outside the match.
