Conference Descriptions
Bleeding/Thrombosis Lecture Series – Because we are the only Hemophilia Treatment Center in Arkansas, it is critical that we continue to be up to date on bleeding disorder treatment and evaluation. We have a dedicated lecture series that includes reviewing hallmark journal articles. We cover several topics, including hemophilia treatment, von Willebrand disease, and rare bleeding disorders.
Benign Hematology Rounds – We cover interesting, difficult and complex hematology cases with our Hematology experts.
Peds Grand Rounds – Pediatric Grand Rounds is held at noon on the third Thursday of each month. It is designed to provide information that will enhance physicians’ clinical skills to diagnose and treat patients in the areas of pediatric subspecialties and primary care.
Board Review – Board Review is led by one of the fellows every week. We analyze board-style questions in preparation for our yearly in-training exam and ultimately, our pediatric hem/onc boards.
Journal Club – Journal club is once to twice a month and is fellow-led. The goal is to critically analyze and evaluate research in medical literature and use evidence-based medicine in our practice.
Fellows Education Conference – This monthly conference is sponsored by the Department of Pediatrics for all pediatric fellows. The goal is to provide fellows with tools to transition successfully into academic, private or research medicine.
Case Conference – Fellows present a topic at this case conference. Several specialties are invited to help support the topic with imaging, pathology, etc. Fellows do an in-depth review of the literature and research studies.
Hem/Onc Didactics – Hem/Onc Didactics are held 2-3x weekly in a structured learning environment to cover the core curriculum required of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellows. Faculty present lectures, however, fellows are given the opportunity to lead lectures throughout the year.
Brain Tumor, Vascular Anomalies, and Sarcoma Conferences are available for any fellow to attend but are not mandatory.
