The ACNC Histology and Bioimaging Core, overseen by Ms. Reneé Fox, has all the necessary facilities to conduct histochemical and immunohistochemical analysis, in situ hybridization, and imaging/microscopy of tissues and cells. This facility is staffed by a full-time certified histotechncian who oversees daily technical activities including the maintenance of equipment and the standardization of techniques. The facility has an automated Sakura Tissue-Tek VIP6 AI processor and a Tissue Tek Embedding platform. The Core also has Leica RM2135 microtome for cutting paraffin embedded blocks. For performing analyses on frozen sections, the laboratory utilizes a Epredia Cryostar NX70. The facility has standardized protocols for histochemical, immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization staining. Several microscopes are available (i.e., Olympus BX50 and Nikon Eclipse Ti2) with histomorphometry, density scanning and 3-dimensional reconstruction and rendering capabilities. For imaging and analysis, there is also a Nikon Eclipse Ti2 with the NIS Elements AR software.
