Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Program

Welcome to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Program! We are delighted about your interest in our program. Our goal is to provide you with state-of-the-art clinical, research, and educational training to best prepare you for board certification and successful careers as academic allergy and immunology specialists.

We offer a two-year ACGME-accredited program with an optional third year for additional research training. We have one fellowship position available yearly (a total of two fellows). The program consists of 80% pediatric allergy and immunology training completed at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, one of the largest free-standing pediatric hospitals in the United States. The program consists of 20% adult Allergy and Immunology training completed at UAMS, the states’ leading and only academic health system. Our Division of Allergy and Immunology consists of 12 clinicians and scientists with various clinical and research interests and a strong commitment to education.

During the two-year program, education time is divided into three categories:

• Fifty percent of the program is devoted to direct patient care activities, including both inpatient and outpatient care and clinical care conferences.
• Twenty-five percent of the program is devoted to didactic education and other educational activities.
• Twenty-five percent is devoted to research and scholarly activities.

In addition to training, allergy and immunology fellows in the delivery of skilled medical and consultative care to patients with a breadth of allergic and immunologic disorders, our program has been designed with a particular focus on supporting the development of young physician-scientists. Our Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Program faculty members are well-established and well-accomplished in their research careers and conduct research across the translational spectrum from the laboratory bench using mouse models and human tissue platforms, to innovative human studies and clinical trials, to community-based health outcomes and implementation. Through integration into these programs, fellows develop and apply critical thinking skills to be able to ask and begin to solve clinical and translational research questions.

Our program is located in Little Rock, Arkansas, which boasts beautiful scenery, museums and cultural events, parks, gourmet dining, and nightlife. Little Rock also offers affordable housing in great neighborhoods and a low cost of living and was also recently recognized as one of the top 12 adventure capitals in the US.
