Why did you choose UAMS? Choosing UAMS was an easy decision for me. I’m fortunate to be mentored by staff who are as brilliant as they are supportive. The combination of high-caliber education, a supportive team, and the charms of the Natural State make UAMS the perfect residency choice for me.

Why did you choose UAMS? During my 4th year, I did several away rotations at various psychiatry residency programs and found that UAMS has multiple unique aspects. Our training sites are all located within approximately 20 minutes of each other, meaning we can move between clinics easily. We also have 3 different hospitals (UAMS, the Little Rock VA, and the Arkansas State Hospital) on the same campus, providing varied rotation opportunities with varied populations. Our 4th year is also entirely devoted to elective time, allowing us to customize our learning to what we are most interested in. Finally, I found that UAMS managed to balance both resident wellness with training intensity.
What’s your favorite thing about Little Rock? I love how Little Rock has the benefits of being a large capital city in terms of healthcare resources, restaurants, and training opportunities, while also being close to outdoor experiences like Pinnacle Mountain State Park and the river trail.
What are your specific interests in Psychiatry? My specific interests in the field of psychiatry are consult-liaison psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.

Why did you choose UAMS? I chose UAMS because of its welcoming and supportive environment, which I immediately felt on my interview day! I was also impressed by the variety of training sites offered. I liked that the program was structured to provide exposure to all of the subspecialties, in addition to psychotherapy, within the PGY-1 and PGY-2 years.
What’s your favorite thing about Little Rock? I love being able to get everywhere quickly and without traffic! I also enjoy all the beautiful nature that is so easily accessible.
What are your specific interests in Psychiatry? I am interested in pursuing child and adolescent psychiatry! I am also particularly interested in psychotherapy, which I see as a valuable part of psychiatry care.
