Mentoring Opportunities for Faculty
Join the effort to increase opportunities in biomedical science.
As a mentor, you can help students from a variety of backgrounds. Your story could be the one to inspire. Your research could provide a spark. Your mentorship could build a foundation.
Here’s how:
- SURP – Through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program to Increase Diversity in Research, UAMS opens its doors annually to promising undergraduates with an interest in science. Wages and housing/travel costs are covered. Faculty can host a student to work on a 9-week project related to your research. Faculty can also support the program by contributing to the program’s weekly group lectures.
- Anesthesia Tech Pipeline Program – This program enables students from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) to work 20 hours a week in the operating room as anesthesia techs. Outside of the OR, they focus on education and research. The students are interested in careers in medicine, and the program provides them with real-world career development and resume-building opportunities.
- HBCU SUPER – The Serving Underrepresented Populations through Engagement and Research project is an opportunity for undergraduates to attain a public health foundation and conduct community-based research, focusing on health disparities in Arkansas. Faculty mentors and research projects are needed.
- SRI – The Summer Research Internship Program provides summer research opportunities to students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in medical careers. Faculty mentors and research projects are needed.
- General mentorship – There is always more interest from students than we can serve with current faculty mentor volunteers. Even if you have a small amount of time available to dedicate, we can likely facilitate a match.
