Guiding Your Career Growth
The Department of Internal Medicine has a formal, time, and event-driven, Faculty Mentoring Program.
Overview
The Faculty Mentoring Program is focused on mentoring assistant professors to
- successfully navigate their careers and achieve promotion and/or tenure in a timely manner,
- maximize their well-being and professional fulfillment, and
- implement an individualized career development plan for academic advancement, which recognizes their aspirations as well as the needs of their divisions.
Junior faculty in both the tenure and non-tenure pathways are mentored equally.
Mentoring committees meet twice annually to evaluate progress, set goals, and support the junior faculty member. The Chair of the mentoring committee produces minutes according to a specific template designed to evaluate progress compared to Promotion and Tenure criteria, identify obstacles, and set goals for the next six months; addresses issues of well-being and professional fulfillment; and strategizes about future career aspirations.
Our mentoring program is based on the highly successful Faculty Mentoring Program in the UAMS Department of Pediatrics.
