OB/GYN Residency Introduction

UAMS Ob-Gyn Resident Recruitment 2021

Message from the Program Director

Amy M. Phillips, M.D.

Amy M. Phillips, M.D.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Our program takes great pride in delivering healthcare for a diverse population of women with integrity, respect, excellence, and teamwork. As the only academic medical center serving the state of Arkansas, UAMS is dedicated to providing exceptional education to students, continuing education to professionals, and informative education to the public.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the College of Medicine at UAMS provides a four-year residency program to five residents for each post-graduate year. The size of our program allows for a “family” atmosphere with one of our greatest assets being the comradery amongst residents and faculty. The program provides meaningful clinical experience covering the breadth and depth of the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology while also emphasizing evidence-based medicine and scholarship through research efforts. Our emphasis on teamwork with faculty, fellows, residents, and nurses ensures safety and excellence in women’s healthcare.

Clinical Faculty provide daily mentoring and open-door availability to residents, weekly continuing education opportunities to professionals and students, and informative educational presentations to the community. Clinical faculty consists of specialists in the areas of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (with Fellows), Gynecologic Oncology, General Obstetrics & Gynecology, Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Residents are exposed to leading-edge patient care such as the high-risk pregnancy program, which is the only one in Arkansas, as well as innovative surgical procedures like the vNOTES procedure. Training and certification in robotic surgery is also built into the curriculum. Residents are trained in the use of interactive video technology in providing high-risk pregnancy care as well as problem-based gynecologic care.

Thank you for your interest in our OB/GYN Residency Program at UAMS. Feel free to contact me with any questions. We look forward to reviewing your application!

Amy Phillips, M.D., Program Director
