Overview
Our research program focuses on dissecting the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying various aspects of cardiometabolic diseases- diabetes, obesity and others. We employ cutting edge technologies such as human induced pluripotent cells (iPSCs), 3D bioprinting, and omics to identify and study the cause of disease initiation and progression. The primary goal of our research is to identify druggable targets in the realm of cardiometabolic diseases that will provide the foundation to develop therapeutic intervention for patients, which is a major clinical unmet need.
Current Research Projects
- HDAC-mediated early-stage cardiac dysfunction in type II diabetes
- Simulation of cardiometabolic disease in a dish using 3D-bioprinted models
- Sex differences in cardiometabolic disease settings
- Bedside to bench approach- SGLT inhibition in cancer chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity
Our research is supported by funding from the American Heart Association, seed grant from the office of the Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation at UAMS, and intramural programs at UAMS.
Our lab thrives because of collaborations with basic science researchers and clinician scientists at UAMS and other institutions.
