Thank you for your interest in our program. We have pledged to promote the educational experience and to support the wellbeing of our residents. As the state’s only Adult Level 1 trauma center and a large tertiary referral center, you will be involved in highly complex cases early on in your CA-1/PGY-2 year. Our faculty are highly skilled and proven educators who will mentor you through your PGY-1 to PGY-4 years and beyond. The clinical experience you will receive, combined with our structured didactic curriculum and robust simulation program, will prepare you to join challenging private practice or the most competitive fellowships.

Virtual Interview Dates for the 2026-2027 Residency Application Cycle

For the 2026–2027 residency application cycle, all interviews will be conducted 100% virtually.

Each interview week, applicants will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual social hour with current residents, providing a chance to learn more about the program, ask questions, and connect with residents in an informal setting.

Thursday interview sessions will follow one of two schedules:

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.
  • 11:20 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Each applicant will interview with a rotating panel of five faculty members, allowing candidates to meet with multiple members of our department and gain a broad perspective on our program.

  • November 5, 11, and 19
  • December  3 and 10

We will host an in-person “Second Look” following certification of the rank list. This will be confirmed at a later date.

Application Process

Anesthesia PGY1 Resident GroupThe University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Anesthesiology Residency Program participates in the National Residency Match Program and takes applications for residency exclusively through ERAS each year. Applicants interested in applying for a residency should apply directly through ERAS. Documents emailed or mailed will not be accepted. Please visit the ERAS website for more information.

We look at the total application with priority given to the following:

  • USMLE Step 1, Step 2(CK), Step 2(CS) required.
  • A Pass on Step 1 and scores at or above 240 for Step 2
  • Prior clinical experience is NOT necessary
  • For foreign medical graduates, UAMS will sponsor the J-1 visa required for entrance into our residency program
    • Visa Sponsorship InformationAt this time, UAMS and its ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs sponsor only J-1 visas for international medical graduates. This is reflective of national and institutional requirements and is not related to applicant qualifications. We welcome applications from all eligible candidates and encourage international applicants who require visa sponsorship to apply under the J-1 visa pathway.  Should federal policy change, including a waiver of the $100,000 H-1B petition cost requirement for healthcare workers, our institution will re-evaluate visa sponsorship capabilities.
