Why I chose UAMS: I wanted to train at UAMS because I was able to witness the level of skill that our residents had at the end of their training. They were able to operate at such a high level that I knew I would leave being an exceptional surgeon. We also provide a private practice experience which I found to be uncommon on the interview trail.
What I like about Little Rock: I enjoy living in Little Rock because it provides the perfect opportunity to develop strong community while providing so many options for spending time outside. I like to play sand volleyball, pickle ball, and pick up basketball. My wife and I love to go to the farmer’s market downtown and walk our dogs along the Arkansas river trail.
What I like about our faculty: Our faculty take an active role in our education both in didactics and in the hospital. As an intern, they have been patient with my learning but also push me to fine tune my skills. They make me think through my questions while guiding me in my education.
What I do in my free time: I love to watch and play sports in my free time. I try to squeeze in golf when I can, play pickle ball, spike ball and whatever anyone else is down to play. My wife and I love to host people for dinner and cookouts, and I love to work in my yard!

Why I Chose UAMS: I wanted to train at UAMS because of how committed the faculty are to helping you get the most out of your training no matter what your career goals are. The private practice experience was something unique to our program as well as the opportunity to be in one of the few ENT programs to get cleft palate exposure.

It's one of those places where anyone can find their community and it's easy to find a family here even if you don't have any immediate family or friends here starting out.
What I Like About Our Faculty: I think what impressed me most about our faculty is how much they care about you as a person outside of surgical training. They push you to be the best surgeon you can be but are always checking in to make sure you're doing well as a person too.

What I like about Little Rock: You’re never far from something to do. Between Argenta, Hillcrest, Heights, and Downtown there is always live music, outdoor festivals, or a new place to grab a drink within 15 minutes of my house. Outside the city you can quickly get to the Ouachita National Forest, Greer’s Ferry Lake, or Hot Springs for a weekend in nature!
What I like about our faculty: At work: They have a great sense of what you need to succeed and treat each resident as an individual learner. Whether in clinic or the operating room you will quickly gain confidence and be given ample opportunity to practice with (supervised) independence. Outside of work: The faculty host us to their homes frequently for didactic activities. If you are at the Children’s Hospital stick around at the end of the week and ask Dr. Richter about Friday afternoon club! Our administrative team also sets up department events for everyone’s family to join.
What I do in my free time: I like to keep busy even on weekends I’m off call. In the spring and summer, I make a point to float the rivers in north Arkansas every few weeks. The rest of the year I try to catch the Razorbacks playing football or basketball with my friends.
