Dr. Bagchi and her team recently published the lab’s first original research article where they incorporated human iPSC-derived cardiac fibroblasts in 3D-bioprinted hydrogel system. This study helped uncover non-canonical epigenomic remodeling of fibrotic genes in the setting of acute onset of cardiometabolic disease. The findings also revealed sex-specific differences in these gene programs emphasizing biological variability of disease initiation. Somaya Ibrahim is the first author of this article, and Dr. Se-Ran Jun (Department of Biomedical Informatics) is a collaborator on this study.
