This year, we have summer students in Dr. Delgado-Calle’s lab, Dr. Lupashin’s lab, and Dr. Bagchi’s lab.
Dr. Bagchi’s Lab
Dr. Bagchi has a total of five summer students this year!

Muhammad Ibrahim

Hi, my name is Muhamma Ibrahim. I go to school at Ramey Junior High School in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I love engineering, robotics, and science. I am volunteering in Dr. Bagshi’s lab to be a part of the scientific research that can possibly lead to what I learn in my textbooks at school. Apart from school, I enjoy cooking at home for my family and I enjoy playing video games. I also like to do anything outdoors related with my brothers and sister.
Jade Coates

My name is Jade Coates. I attend Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. I am entering my senior year, with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Science has always interested me ever since I was young! I love doing hands-on experiments and helping others. As I have grown up, I realized I liked learning about muscles, probably because of my background in sports. I have been playing volleyball since sixth grade. I am blessed to continue to play at the Division 1 level. Throughout my career, I have seen many of my friends get injured and struggle mentally and physically to get back on the court. I would love to study more in-depth about muscles to not only aid athletes but also others in healing. I still haven’t decided if I would like to be on the research side or more hands-on with patients (like Orthopedics), but I believe this program will help me make that decision. I’m excited about the knowledge and experience that I will gain, and I appreciate being welcomed into the summer research program again in Dr. Bagchi’s lab.
Ashira Thadisena

Hi, I’m Ashira Thadisena! I am a rising senior at Little Rock Central High School, hoping to pursue a premed track. I aim to become a cardiologist or neurologist. Outside working in Dr. Rushita Bagchi’s lab, you will find me embracing my love for food, sharing my enthusiasm for volleyball, dedicating myself to dance, and dreading college applications.
Nia Mwenda

Hi, my name is Nia Mwenda, and I’m currently a 10th-grade student at Conway High School and gaining research experience in Dr. Rushita Bagchi’s lab. I enjoy playing soccer for fun and competitive and my position on the field is defense. My favorite subject is psychology, and I’m passionate about understanding how the mind works. In the future, I hope to become a pediatric psychiatrist so I can help children and teens with their mental health. Outside of school, I love spending time with my friends, eating good food, and catching up on sleep.
Fatima Nazif

Hi, my name is Fatima Nazif, and I’m from Little Rock, Arkansas. I am a biomedical engineering student at the U of A, WPS! My goal is to contribute to the development of technologies that improve patients’ outcomes and enhances their quality of life. As part of the SRI program, I am working with Dr. Bagchi to learn more about application of 3D bioprinting in cardiometabolic disease research.
Dr. Lupashin’s Lab
Dr. Lupashin has two summer students this year!

Akshara Chevireddy

Hello, my name is Akshara Chevireddy and I will be a senior at Pulaski Academy. I plan to major in biochemical studies once I graduate and enter college. I am working in Dr. Lupashin’s lab where we conduct experiments to learn more about the Golgi and its complexes.
Diya Mehta

I am a rising senior majoring in Mathematical and Computational Biology at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. I plan to pursue a Ph.D. program in a related field after graduation. In Dr. Lupashin’s lab, I am learning about how the COG complex aids with intracellular membrane trafficking in the Golgi apparatus. In my free time, I enjoy reading, catching up with friends, and going on walks. I am excited to be here for the summer!
Dr. Delgado’s Lab
Dr. Delgado-Calle has one Summer Student

Kathryn Wilson

Hi, I’m Kathryn Wilson. I will be a senior in the fall at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I am a Business Management major on the pre-medical track. I plan to attend medical school a year after graduation. I am in Dr. Delgado-Calle’s lab, learning about Multiple Myeloma and how osteoclasts break down bone while osteoblasts form new and heal bone. I have been passaging ostecytes and myeloma cells. I like discovering new genres of music, going to concerts, and searching and finding vintage clothing items to wear.
