Residents are mentored by peers, clinical faculty and research faculty. Interns have an R2 mentor, R1s have a R3 mentor, and R2s have an R4 mentor so that each resident will experience both “mentee” and “mentor” roles during residency. Faculty mentors assist with career and professional development. Peer mentors provide collegial support and guidance about study plans, rotation preparation, board exams, call, fellowships, and other aspects of resident life.
Each resident is expected to meet with their faculty mentor two times a year. At the beginning of each academic year, each mentee is also allowed to choose or retain their mentor based on their subspecialty interest.
