Mission and Aims

Mission

The UAMS Emergency Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to training physicians who deliver timely, compassionate, and equitable emergency care to the people of Arkansas and beyond. Our residents care for some of the sickest and most vulnerable patients in the state, gaining comprehensive exposure across the full breadth of emergency medicine. 

Guided by the values of authenticity, compassion, perseverance, curiosity, community, and excellence, we cultivate a learning environment grounded in shared responsibility, purposeful development, and meaningful engagement in departmental and institutional initiatives. Our mission is to graduate physicians who are clinically outstanding, reflective in their practice, and well prepared to meet the evolving demands of emergency medicine in any practice setting. 

Aims

Develop Clinically Excellent Emergency Physicians 
Provide rigorous training in patient-centered care, clinical reasoning, communication, procedural skills, and adaptability in high-acuity settings. 

  1. Prepare Residents for Leadership Across Practice Settings 
    Equip residents with the skills to lead teams, navigate complex systems, and contribute to departmental, institutional, and specialty-wide initiatives. 
  2. Foster an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment 
    Create a culture that prioritizes psychological safety, constructive feedback, shared accountability, and a strong sense of community. 
  3. Promote Curiosity, Lifelong Learning, and Thoughtful Innovation 
    Encourage intellectual curiosity, reflective practice, and engagement in initiatives that enhance clinical care and support ongoing professional growth.
