Aims:
- Provide trainees with general preventive medicine and public health competencies and milestones specified by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education;
- Prepare residents for the board certification in public health and general preventive medicine as administered by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
PM-1 (PGY-2) Year:
For most residents, the PM-1 year will focus on completing the course work for the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.
The residents will also rotate in 6 areas for 2-month blocks each in:
- Chronic diseases
- Outbreak response/Communicable Disease
- Occupational medicine
- One health
- Lifestyle medicine
- Research
Additionally, the residents will also spend one day a week in their continuity clinic at UAMS Family Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
PM-2 (PGY-3) Year:
For most residents, the PM-2 year will focus on completing the course work for the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.
The residents will also rotate in 6 areas for 2 months each in:
- Maternal Health/Local Public Health
- Emergency Preparedness
- Substance Misuse/Addiction Medicine
- Management Project
- Immunizations/Infectious Diseases
Electives (1-or 1- month blocks) at one of participating sites (in Health Policy, Health Informatics, or Primary care/Family Medicine Clinic)
Additionally, the residents will also spend one day a week in their continuity clinic at UAMS Family Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
