  4. Residents As Teachers

Residents As Teachers

UAMS housestaff must be equipped with the basic skills needed to help teach medical students. These five-minute online videos demonstrate a few skills that residents/fellows can quickly learn and use.

This requirement has been approved by the COM Curriculum Committee and has full support of the Council of Departmental Chairs.

Please watch the following four videos:

One Minute Preceptor
Teaching A Procedure
Teaching Clinical Reasoning
Guide for New Evaluation Form

Please note: The highest rating on the Clerkship-Student Performance Evaluation has been updated to “Top 5% of students; only a handful of students at this level per year”. (This replaces “Performs at the level of an intern”).

The Resident Teaching Skills Manual below was created by the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and is intended to:

  1. provide “how – to” guidelines for the novice and experienced teaching resident,
  2. identify additional resources [with information pertinent to educating others], and
  3. be a quick reference guide for common teaching situations
