Spine

The Department of Neurosurgery at UAMS is dedicated to providing their patients state-of-the-art treatment for their spine care, whether it is a condition the patient has had since birth or is due to a spine injury. The Department of Neurosurgery has neurosurgeons who specialize in Neurosurgery of the Spine.

The UAMS Department of Neurosurgery offers a new method for spine surgery called the lateral procedure. If this type of procedure is an option it minimizes potential trauma to the body, minimizes pain, and allows the patient to go home sooner.

We care for patients who need surgery for a variety of conditions, including:

  • Spondyloisthesis
  • Kyphosis
  • Spinal deformity associated with ankylosing spondylitis
  • Spinal fractures
  • Pseudarthrosis
  • Flatback syndrome

The UAMS Department of Neurosurgery is a participant in the National Neurosurgical Quality Outcomes Database (N²QOD), a national clinical registry sponsored by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. The purpose of  participation in this registry is to help measure and improve quality of care and outcomes of spinal neurosurgery not only here at UAMS and in Arkansas but also on a national level.
