Thank you for your interest in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Psychiatry Residency Program! We will accept applications only through ERAS and make selections through the NRMP. Applications to be considered for the next academic year should be in the ERAS system no later than Oct. 31.
What is your minimum eligibility requirement?
All applicants for a PGY-1 position in the Psychiatry residency program must apply through ERAS and provide the following:
- Official transcript from the medical school
- Dean’s letter
- Three letters of recommendation (one must be from a psychiatry experience)
- Personal statement
- Test scores (USMLE or COMLEX; we prefer that you have passed through Step 2 or Level 2 by the time of your application)
- ECFMG certificate, if an international medical school graduate
Do you welcome D.O. graduates?
Yes!
Do you have a minimum USMLE or COMLEX score?
There is no minimum USMLE or COMLEX scores for admission as this is only one of many criteria utilized in our selection process. We do not believe that a test score reflects the quality of a physician.
Do you sponsor visas?
Our visa policies are currently under review. For general information, visit the UAMS Immigration Services page, or contact UAMS Immigration Services at AskImmigration@uams.edu.
Does your program offer observerships?
The University policy allows rotations by medical students currently enrolled in LCME medical schools only.
Do you offer away rotations for current medical students?
Yes! You must apply through VSLO. There are rules and regulations, of course. Get details. (Note that this is for current medical students only.)
How will I know if I have been selected for an interview?
You will be contacted via the email address you have provided on your application in ERAS.
How many positions does your program accept?
Currently we accept eight PGY-1 residents each academic year.
Does your program have a graduation year cut-off?
The UAMS Psychiatry Residency program does not have a graduation year cut-off. Our profile on FREIDA can be found at: https://login.ama-assn.org/account/login. You must create a free profile. Please use this program number to search for our program 4000422014.
