Electives:

Residents have the opportunity to tailor their training through a wide variety of elective experiences. These rotations provide exposure to diverse subspecialties, clinical settings, and scholarly opportunities, allowing residents to explore areas of interest, develop specialized expertise, and prepare for fellowship training or independent practice. Elective experiences include VA Mental Health Intensive Case Management, Student Wellness Clinic, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Toxicology, Acting Attending roles on the inpatient unit and outpatient clinic, Forensic Psychiatry, the Child Diagnostic Unit, CBT for Psychosis, the Transplant Mental Health Clinic, and the VA Clozapine Clinic, among many others. A unique opportunity at UAMS is the Resident Academic Track (link), a longitudinal program designed to develop future leaders in academic psychiatry. The track fosters long-term mentor-mentee relationships, provides small-group learning experiences with faculty across UAMS, and includes didactics on key aspects of academic medicine. Residents also complete and present a Grand Rounds lecture on a topic of personal interest, helping them build skills in scholarship, teaching, and leadership.

Didactics:

Protected educational time is a cornerstone of our residency program. Every Thursday afternoon, residents are relieved of clinical responsibilities to focus on learning. Residents gather for lunch together before separating into class-specific didactics tailored to their level of training and clinical experiences. Our comprehensive curriculum includes lectures, case conferences, board review, journal clubs, Grand Rounds, and interactive workshops led by expert faculty and invited speakers, ensuring broad exposure to all areas of psychiatry
