Welcome
Welcome to the UAMS Division of Surgical Research where we strive to elevate clinical, basic science, and translational research across the entire UAMS surgery department. Many of history’s greatest advancements in clinical therapy have come from the research of surgical scientists who have a unique understanding of disease and how it manifests in the human body.
Mission
It is a mission of the DSR to encourage surgeon-initiated research to further advance our understanding of the biology of surgical diseases and promote the development of new diagnostic and treatment strategies at UAMS. We provide clinician-scientists with support in the areas of grant writing/submission, IRB approval, outcomes database access, biostatistics, core facility access (proteomics, genomics research), and basic science research. In addition, the DSR focuses on mentoring future clinician-scientists by providing medical students, residents, and fellows training in a research laboratory in which they can be fully immersed in basic science and translational research.
It is our belief that by cultivating a collaborative, supportive research environment within the surgery department, we can enhance patient care and make UAMS a world-renowned academic research center.
