TrueLearn Question Bank

This is one of the most widely-used subscription question banks in general surgery residencies, and ours is provided free to our residents. TrueLearn contains over 1000 ABSITE-pertinent questions with detailed explanations. Recent data suggests that completing the TrueLearn question bank improves a resident’s ABSITE percentile scores by 20 percentile points.

Decker Curriculum

This is a continuously-updated online resource that teaches principles and practice that our surgery residency utilizes for weekly readings. Decker offers packages tailored to all different levels of lifelong learning, and can be quickly referenced for questions while on clinical rotations. They offer a responsive application that saves resident’s progress across multiple devices. They also feature a large question bank of ABSITE-relevant questions.

Textbooks

Books such as Sabiston Textbook of Surgery, Cameron’s Current Surgical Therapy, Schwartz’ Principles of Surgery, Greenfield’s Surgery, and many others can be purchased with our complimentary $250/year educational fund for residents. Residents can choose any major textbook(s) they would prefer to use, and read along with our weekly curriculum.

Mock Oral Exams

These are held twice a year. Senior residents (PGY-4s and PGY-5s) participate in formal mock oral examinations at our state of the art clinical skills center. Our junior residents also participate in biyearly semi-formal mock oral exams with PGY-year appropriate cases proctored by senior faculty.
