Laparoscopic/Endoscopic Simulation Center
UAMS houses a $1 million dollar state-of-the-art simulation center for practicing techniques such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy. We also have specific training dummies for FES and FLS and have had excellent board pass rates for our most recent graduates.
Robotic Simulation Center
We developed a robotics training curriculum with Dr. Theresa McCallie (pictured above) and Dr. Kim Jackman at the VA to prepare chief residents to have the option to finish with a robotics certification upon graduation. UAMS and CAVHS both have access to DaVinci robots with training modules to prepare residents of all levels, and we have multiple hands-on robotics labs throughout the academic year.
Cadaver/Pig Lab
We have quarterly labs with either cadavers or pigs to practice surgical operations and trauma scenarios. The cadavers are used to facilitate the trauma chief in performing procedures such as ED thoracotomies and complex vascular reconstructions. The pig labs are utilized to practice advanced laparoscopic techniques and management of intraoperative complications.
