Family Medicine Rural Track Residency Program in Crossett
Thank you for your interest in our program, UAMS Regional Centers (Crossett). The mission of our program is to recruit, train, and retain compassionate and capable physicians who feel called to serve rural communities and the families who live within them. Improving access and quality of healthcare for rural Arkansans is the primary goal of our program, specifically to rural southeast Arkansas.
Choosing a residency program can be a daunting process, and finding the right fit for you is key. UAMS RC (Crossett) has the privilege of training residents in an urban setting during PGY-1, followed by training in a significantly rural setting during PGY-2 and PGY-3 – truly the best of both worlds in terms of medical education. Our program has developed a partnership with a well-established family medicine residency program – the PGY-1 training site UAMS Family Medicine Residency based in Little Rock, Arkansas at the main UAMS campus. This collaboration brings a wealth of resources to our training program and we work together to provide a smooth transition between the urban and rural years of training. After transitioning to the rural site in Crossett, AR residents will enjoy an “unopposed” training environment allowing residents the broadest exposure and experience.
While residents of the program receive training in all aspects of care provided by family medicine physicians, our niche resides in our rural faculty and our mission, to train family medicine physicians to provide chronic disease management, urgent care, and preventative services for rural patients and their loved ones. In a time when specialization is ever increasing, our mission guides us to prepare our graduates to be confident and capable “country doctors,” true generalists who are able to care for all aspects of a rural family’s healthcare needs. For every family, a family doctor!
We know you have many options for residency training, both in Arkansas and beyond, and we appreciate your interest in our program. If you have any questions after browsing through our site, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you,
Brad Walsh, MD
