Chien Chen, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Chien Chen did his medical school training at the University of Florida where he obtained a combined M.D./Ph.D. (Molecular Biology and Biochemistry) degree in 2002. He did his pathology residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he studied anatomic pathology and subsequently did a fellowship in Cytopathology. Dr. Chen is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology. He has been a staff pathologist at UAMS since 2006 and is a clinical attending.

Dr. Chen is the director of head and neck pathology, and has particular interests in thyroid and salivary gland pathology and cytopathology. In addition, he signs out gynecologic pathology and general cytopathology. While he does not engage directly in basic or translational research, he is interested in providing pathology support for research projects. His areas of particular interest are thyroid, salivary gland, DNA methylation and transcriptional control. He is interested in medical education and gives lectures on thyroid and parathyroid pathology to the medical students, lectures in gynecologic and head and neck pathology to pathology residents and is responsible to coordinating and lecturing in the cytopathology didactic series.
