Description
Program Director:
Sara Shalin, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences offers a one-year fellowship in Dermatopathology. We interpret more than 15,000 skin specimens per year, including cases from the UAMS Medical Center, the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and outside consultation cases from around the country. We work closely with the Department of Dermatology which allows our fellows to participate in Dermatology clinics and conferences. The Dermatopathology service performs a wide range of special stains, immunohistochemical stains, and molecular techniques, as well as direct immunofluorescence.
The dermatopathology fellow participates in consensus conference, dermatology grand rounds, presents interesting cases to the dermatology trainees, interdepartmental melanoma conference, dermatopathology and dermatology journal clubs, QA meetings and monthly journal club with the community dermatologists. The fellow should have case presentations and original research work prepared to present at the American Society of Dermatopathology annual meeting, and other national conferences as appropriate.
